The Thames down from Staines bridge is one of the most historically interesting stretches of the river, reaching back to Roman times when it was a small port (or ‘hythe’). It has had a colourful history since then.
Today it is flanked by the Staines Conservation Area on its northern bank and the Egham Hythe Conservation Area on the other side.
The river is a source of enjoyment and entertainment for both
residents and those passing through on leisure craft.
